The Story

This was June, right after school broke out, where me and dad went on a University Tour for colleges that I’m looking into in the US. I mainly focus on west coast because I don’t like the concept of having to fly 4 extra hours to east coast. I get airsick. Also because I love having my wonderful relatives around, and they’re all on the west coast.

Just for a little bit of bonus information, my current top choices in no particular order are:

The entire trip was Vancouver –> San Francisco –> Los Angeles. Me and dad were planning to go to Disney California Adventures on the last Saturday there the night before, because hey, gotta take a break from all them university visits. Once again when I looked at instagram, I found out that Sasha was actually at VidCon! VidCon is held in the Anaheim Convention Center, which is basically 5 minutes away from DISNEY! WOT!

I quickly started texting Sasha through Twitter (my Androma Saga fan acc) and telling her about how I’m in LA, and if possible, we should definitely find a chance to meet up. We were scheduled to meet up maybe after VidCon and my Disney Adventures, and so I enjoyed my day with dad at Disney the following day, a.k.a. Saturday.

Continuing on our communication afterwards, Sasha turned out to be in a hurry to attend Jesse The Reader’s (woop!) birthday dinner with all the pals (super cute btw!), so as my dad and I tried our best to rush over, Sasha had to leave for the dinner. I mean, its understandable, I’m just a gurl from the other side of the globe that loves Sasha and wants to go on another stalking adventure like I did with Katharine. Except with a car and not in my hometown.

Sasha said that she would love to find a possible way to meet up with me now that I’m in LA and she’s in LA, so she proposed the plan of meeting after dinner at maybe 10pm at night :P yes that’s late.

You know, dad wouldn’t let this pass easily, so he made sure I begged my uncle and aunt nicely — whose house was were we stayed at during our trip in LA (uncle is my dad’s lil’ bro) — during dinner, and to make the so called bluff offer, because, I mean, they’d promise to drive me to Anaheim no matter what. Why? Cus I’m the only child among 3 great-aged adults and tbh they’ve got nothing better to do anyway than go on a fun errand with me. #SorryNotSorry #ParentalAbuse #ChildRights #seventeen4eva

Off we go from Little Tokyo, where we had dinner, BACK to Anaheim to meet Sasha. The car ride was a super busy journey of texting back and forth of how to meet Sasha due to the security around her hotel to watch over the wonderful YouTubers, and a lot of other technical issues. Btw, Here’s a snippet of the conversation in the car ride:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Uncle: I mean its only normal that she’s not giving you her exact location, she doesn’t know you and you could be a freak
Me: (Why does this incident resemble meeting up with Katharine so much…)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Sasha texted me her hotel name and it was JUST in time since our car arrived at Anaheim. We drove over to the hotel and we entered the hallway through the back door. (I believe) A few steps in, and hello security line. Hey, we were being respectful so we didn’t try to breach security. And no offence but they’re actually scary looking. Only people who are checking in or have hotel cards or the booktuber pass can enter. Here’s a snippet of what happened while waiting for Sasha to come down to the lobby:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
*person walks past security line*
Guard 1: Sir do you have a room key?
*Sir raises card in hand while walking away*
*Guard 2 did not see*
Guard 2: Sir! SIR! SIR! DO YOU HAVE A KEY?
Guard 1: Yea yea he showed it alre-
Sir: RIGHT HERE!
Sir to friend: Geez YouTube Sucks.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What a legend. I know.

I was squinting my eyes the whole time while I waited for a figure that resembles Sasha, since I didn’t have my glasses on and I COULDN’T SEE A FAR THING AT ALL. They just blur.

Then, in walks Sasha Alsberg.
DREAM COME TRUE OKURRRR

Family greetings!
Yes!
At least my dad my uncle and aunt doesn’t intrude our date like mom did last time. And so, we walked to this sort of chill area outside the hotel, sat down on the floor and started chit chatting for nearly an hour.

I introduced a bit more about myself to Sasha, and Sasha was amazed about the fact that she and Lindsay has a fan all the way in Hong Kong, and that she couldn’t miss the opportunity of meeting me when I’m so close to her. Not to boast or anything, but she WAS fascinated

by my English speaking ability, and thats why I really enjoyed it when I got to share some history and culture of Hong Kong with her. Hong Kong is a unique place where it was ruled by China, Britain, Japan and now China but as a temporary Puerto Rico of China. That’s why a lot of our street names and location names are really really really British. Embankment Street, Portland Street, Prince Edward Road, Edinburgh Place, Gloucester Road, Queen Victoria Street, Guildford Street, Oxford Road, Princess Margaret Road, Waterloo Road………. (thats basically where I live)

21082124_1701621426575559_2012626876_o.jpgSasha shared some of her life updates with me, as well as her ideal university to study masters in, a few cute facts about herself, her wonderful necklace and some great news as well. I was overjoyed to hear about it, and I was so glad that I could meet up with Sasha. She is just as sweet in real life as she is on all of her YouTube videos :>

—R.I.P. its 11:30pm IRL and I still haven’t continued working on my High School Thesis due next Wednesday I have another 2000 words to write I am screwed—
21146247_1701621423242226_1833147058_o.jpgNow, being a Zenith fan, Sasha was kind enough to ask Zoe, her roomie, to bring down Sasha’s travel copy of THE ZENITH ARC!!! I held it in my glorious arms, and it was absolutely amazing. We took a few photos tgt, and as we were saying our goodbyes, Sasha was so kind to decide to leave me her copy of ZENITH ARC with me to take away :’)

I was super happy that I got to meet Sasha, and I will definitely go find her in BEA and BOOK CON 2017 YES MY GRADUATION TRIP WITH MY PARENTS EXCEPT THEY ABANDON ME AT BOOK CON WHILE I ROAM FOR 6 DAYS! Love you Sasha! xoxo

100th POST! How I met Katharine McGee

It is my 100th Post on my book blog, and we are celebrating with a little bit of a fun one!

so as I said I’m not doing much August reading because the concept of school and school work and essays is still freaking me out, so lets do some non-book review posts to let you readers enjoy a little something something from me.

Who is Katharine McGee?

Katharine McGeeKatharine McGee is the author of the New York Times bestselling Thousandth Floor series. She studied English and French literature at Princeton University and has an MBA from Stanford. It was during her years in New York, working as an editor by day and writing by night, that she began a manuscript about life in a futuristic skyscraper.

The Story

It was on a not-so-wonderful-day in May where I had a one or so extra hours in the morning before my friend comes over to the clubhouse for our so called mathematics and biology revision, so I was swimming. Yes, the pool only had oldies, so to be less bored and awkward, I kept checking my fan from time to time.

Related image

While scrolling through instagram stories during the carpool with my dad to the clubhouse, (he was going to work and I was going to the clubhouse of course) I saw this really familiar looking background in Katharine’s story that basically looks like Hong Kong’s typical “tea restaurant”, but I wasn’t sure because I knew Katharine was JUST in Japan. When I started swimming and I got distracted from swimming and went to check the Instagram stories again, I saw a short video of Katharine at Tamar Park, a park in Central on Hong Kong Island!

So then I started trying to text Katharine about it, and that I knew she was in Hong Kong, and so we began planning our meet up over instagram if it was possible!

My friends thought I was being nuts and crazy trying to stalk where Katharine was throughout the day and the next day. Ok fine I probably was, but I’m not missing a chance when one of my absolute favourite authors is in my hometown. Authors barely come to Hong Kong, they just won’t even do Asia tours here. The market is wayyy too small.

So I continued spending the day with my friend revising, and the next day, DAY ONE OF EXAMS. GREAT. Totally. I didn’t care about it. Because I only had one objective that was constant in my mind before the actual tests and after the actual tests:

MEET KATHARINE!

Image result for landmark hong kong

We continued communicating and found out that she was in Central at The Landmark (a building owned by the company my dad used to work for. Well now he works for the company that owns that company) Katharine said that she was eating in one of the cafes, so I actually did try my best to scrounge through the four floors of this building that I knew pretty well to find her. Actually she was in one of the cafes, but I was in mildly of a hurry that I basically walked past the restaurant she was in and continued my search for another hour or more or so? I even tried to walk around the other buildings connected to The Landmark, and even got onto the streets to look. Yea that was a stupid move but hey, I’m desperate.

So after a round of fruitless search, I decided to head home when Katharine found wifi and texted me about how she’s returning to her staying quarters. It was a bit of a let down, but I mean, its life.

Later on at night near dinner time, Katharine texted me about how she will be heading to Tsim Tsa Tsui for awhile to look around, and I knew immediately that it was now or never. So I called my mom (which was probably the worse decision I made) to carpool me to Tsim Tsa Tsui so I could meet up with Katharine. Mom began with speaking nonsense in the car and I honestly regretted asking her to come with me.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mom: It’s great you brought me, its safer when you’re meeting strangers like this.
Me: #triggered
21146961_1701621443242224_785228873_o.jpg
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mom decided to end up helping me to look out for Katharine coming from the Star Ferry that she took from the other side of the harbor between the peninsula and the island of Hong Kong, and managed to spot her. So thats how we found each other in the city of Hong Kong.

We ended up hanging out for 45 minutes or so with my mom actually being nosey and coming in to come chat even though I wanted Katharine and her adorable hubby, Alex, for myself-

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Snippet of what happened after we met:
Mom: Its good I came along because your interpersonal skills won’t be able to handle a good conversation with the both of them
Me: #doubletriggered #tripletriggered #amnjefghknesdliosferw294t38u)*U(Y&^%#^&Q
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

yes for myself. Ahem. Continuing on.

We mainly talked about Hong Kong, not so much about The Thousandth Floor, some general chit chat and general topics, how I found out about Katharine’s story, and we indeed managed to chat for quite some time!

21082253_1701621476575554_1087516293_o.jpgWe took some photos together, and I got a wonderful family photo with the absolutely adorable OTP author couple right here :)

21103913_1701621483242220_1240129327_o.jpg

We chatted for a little longer after we took so photos, and since my mom was starving and Katharine and Alex has a dinner appointment with Alex’s previous colleagues (yes, he has worked in Hong Kong for a while in the past!) We parted our ways, and I ended my tragic exam day with a happy memory from Katharine.
Other than the fact that mom bombed my date with Katharine and Alex, I really couldn’t ask for anything more. Thank you Katharine for taking the time out to hang out with me in my hometown, and I hope to be able to see you in the future if I ever come to America again! (VERY SOON! I’M COMING TO BOOK CON 2017777 YAASSSS)

ARC Review: Fallen Heir – Erin Watt

Thank you Erin Watt for blessing me with this e-ARC and giving me the opportunity to read it before it gets released and die before everyone else does, and therefore have a longer and more agonizing wait.

Btw you might wanna finish reading the previous three novels before reading this, cus I might put spoilers from previous books here, and plot points in which you won’t understand.

Book Cover Comments

I simply love that shade of purple, and its also like you know, royalty color. This time we get a staff/stick/doodad and its pretty sick. I’m in love with the cover and I can’t wait to get my hands on a paperback copy when the physical book comes out.

The Review

RECAP: Paper Princess focuses on Ella Environment, Broken Prince on Reed Redemption, Twisted Palace on Event Ecstasy. Fallen Heir? EASTON EFFING ROYAL.

This book and the next book, Cracked Kingdom, will be focusing on Easton’s story and his life. This takes place after Tarnished Crown (Book 3.5 on Gideon) in which I have yet to read cus I want to read it in one sitting instead of waiting for a chapter to be released each week. So unfortunately Reed is at college, but hey, we musn’t cast our first three book’s heroine, Ella aside. She continues to be super badass.

Where do I even start in this amazing first book about Easton? ok fine no one ever said that Easton is a Reed, because he isn’t. Throughout this book, Easton goes through a lot, like ALOT. He’s getting out there, seeing the world and begins to listen to others. Easton’s going through an emotional rollercoaster on redemption and self realisation, his role in his family and his behavior, how that affects others and himself, all of that because of one girl.

Hartley.

Oh Hartley. Now she too is a tough character. But I love Hartley. I have to say she’s real steal. Her outer shell is really strong for what she went through, is going through, in which you’ll be super excited to know about when you read this book because its super super amazing, and also how she behaves towards Easton. Easton tries real hard to break that outer walnut shell and gets to know Hartley, and so she’s his game changer. I’m glad to see the flower starting to bloom.

But Royals never let you go without some beef.

Oh yes the beef. This is a spoiler free zone unfortunately, so I can’t say a word, but there are two major beefs. The second one ends when the book ends and is a major major major cliffhanger. I’m not kidding. The moment I got to the last page on my Kindle, I knew I was going to die since I have to wait from now, aka mid-August all the way to January. That’s not very fun at all. And all the ups and downs that Easton has to go through just kills me.

I super love Hartley though. The way she acts when her softer self emerges and feels safer around Easton (sigh I mean its Easton Royal) and then when some sweet butterfly heartache scenes emerge.. the butterflies even come out when I just can’t bare to see Easton’s love struggles. Unlike Paper Princess, Broken Prince and Twisted Palace, the hot and steaminess really toned down even though it makes sense because of the plot line and progression in Fallen Heir, but I do have high hopes and expectations for what is to come in Cracked Kingdom. And I’m dying to read it.

For anyone who’s dying for a sweetheart romance and lots of drama and beef, go and pick up Paper Princess and start reading, then get all the way to Fallen Heir, and then feel my anticipation-caused-death for Cracked Kingdom.

Book Review: Dividing Eden – Joelle Charbonneau

With their country and their hearts divided, Carys and Andreus will discover exactly what each will do to win the crown. How long before suspicion takes hold and the thirst for power leads to the ultimate betrayal?

Book Cover Comments

That black liquid…

Also the concept of splitting the throne into two is simply sickening.

The book IRL is more silver and white and brighter than what you see on the pictures actually, so I’m glad I picked up this gorgeous book and not on kindle or anything XD

The Actual Review

Ok this book is simply magical.

Nonono, not the fantasical magical. Magical as in, WHOA.

When I closed this book, I still couldn’t really believe what actually just happened in this book. While the book kicks off with a bit more of a backing up story and a slightly slow start, it hooked up my interest all the way up to where all the excitement starts, and then oooh my goodness.

Ok as we all know from the synopsis, Carys and Andreus have to take part in the Trial of Succession to determine which twin will take over the throne. And gosh how exciting is the trials? The answer is very. First trial, I was surprised how it ended, and I see the storm quickly brewing up, and then second trial, holy mother of Jesus what just happened. It’s like, everyone had a 360 degree change into something else, and that totally boosted the plot and made everything super exciting. Third trial (yes spoilers for number of trials) was pretty devastating. I was like wth in the second part of the third trial, and then when everything turned out as the ending would be, I was like, ok where’s the next book I desperately need it pretty much right now.

hahah Carys and Andreus. I pronounce then Ca-ree-s and Andrew-s. Apparently its supposed to be pronounced like Karis and Éndreas according to the audiobook that I tested out.

Ok at first when I read the synopsis and how the story started off, I thought the twins were gonna be as thick as thieves all the way to the end and find a way to trick the Trials. At least, that was what they were going for. NOPE. NOT THE CASE AT ALL. SO many many characters alongside of Carys and Andreus began planting lies and thoughts into the minds of the twins, and then things started getting real complicated. When those lies pretty much divert the twins from their path of light, and then when antagonists appear and make things just much more worse…

Lords I cannot handle all this suspense and insanity.

Me at one point:
God why is this character so stupid what is wrong with this character NO DON’T GO DOWN THIS PATH…
*a few pages or chapters or whatever later*
Dang it.

Dear reader of this blog post, Dividing Eden is one of the best Summer reads that I have had so far, It is absolutely amazing, thrilling, the thirst of power, desire and the power of lies and betrayal, an absolute page turner.

Book Review: Wayfarer – Alexandra Bracken

Ok I just realised that I totally forgot to write up the review for Wayfarer… here we go!

30343665

Name: Wayfarer

As Etta and Nicholas fight to make their way back to one another, from Imperial Russia to the Vatican catacombs, time is rapidly shifting and changing into something unrecognisable … and might just run out on both of them.

Book Cover Comments

Wayfarer is totally as beautiful as Passenger, and the purple is absolutely gorgeous. I don’t think I still know the significance of the tree but whateves lol. Its so pretty.

The Actual Review

(kill me its been too long ago as well)

Ok. Here we go again. The probably one and only problem with Alex Bracken books, and since this is the third one it pretty much is the case: its very very very very very very SLOW! Just like last book, for some reason I had to rush it before a flight, therefore I pushed myself to keep reading it no matter what, Wayfarer lives up to its name. It still kept me turning the pages, while it continues on the journey across history with even more exciting places, plot lines and new characters.

Ok the entire time Etta and Nicholas were fairy close to each other, (it was kinda as if one was catching up to the other) cus they’re separated into two teams, there were so much butterfly heartaches that I can’t even imagine. And then when everything just explodes and whenever Etta and Nicholas’ relationship get closer and closer, I just die over it.

We’re introduced to some really good characters, especially more of Etta’s relatives a.k.a. history, and that makes the plot super super super super funky and interesting. I was totally in shock to first meet these characters, how they played out, how Etta is tied in with them, and then how some secrets are here and there, oooooo.

Though I must say the ending does remind me of how Miss Peregrine… ooo. I totally forgot. In my Passenger review I mentioned how the Edelstein Trilogy was the only time travelling series I read. I guess Miss Peregrine counts as well? Like yea sure I’m happy for the ending and there really is no way to conclude the series, buuuuut maybe a bit too magical in my opinion? Also the Prologue and Epilogue just confused the hell outta me XD

Wayfarer, though slow, is a great read for fans of romance, time travelling, mysteries and relationships and so much more.
